Steam Indicator Tape

Steam Indicator Tape is a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape used to seal sterilization wraps or pouches and to indicate whether an item has been exposed to a steam sterilization process. The tape features heat-sensitive chemical ink stripes that change color (typically from white to dark brown or black) when exposed to saturated steam at specific temperatures, such as 121°C or 134°C. This color change is irreversible and provides a quick visual confirmation that the package has gone through a sterilization cycle. However, it is important to note that steam indicator tape only confirms exposure to steam — it does not verify sterility. For that purpose, internal chemical indicators or biological indicators must be used. The tape is moisture-resistant, breathable, and can be written on for recording sterilization dates, lot numbers, and operator information. It is widely used in hospitals, dental clinics, laboratories, and other healthcare facilities.
