POP Bandage

A POP (Plaster of Paris) bandage is a traditional orthopedic dressing used to create rigid casts for immobilizing broken bones or injured joints. It consists of a cotton gauze bandage impregnated with fine, white Plaster of Paris powder. When dipped in water, the plaster undergoes a chemical reaction and hardens into a solid, durable mold that conforms precisely to the patient’s limb. POP bandages are highly moldable, cost-effective, and ideal for initial fracture reduction or for creating custom splints. They are commonly used on the arms, legs, and wrists. However, they are heavier than synthetic alternatives and must be kept dry, as moisture can weaken the cast.
